Asian Games: Sindhu bags historic silver in women’s singles

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu on Tuesday clinched a historic silver medal in Women’s Singles Badminton event as she became the first Indian to finish second on the podium in the Asian Games.

The 23-year-old went down 13-21, 16-21 against Chinese Taipei player Tai Tzu Ying in the final clash that lasted 34 minutes.

Sindhu, who had thrashed Tzu Ying in the pre-quarters of the Rio Olympics, failed to replicate the magic this time and had to settle for silver at the event.

The Chinese Taipei player, who is widely famous for her deceptive game, had earlier kicked-out the Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal from the ongoing tournament after she registered a dominating 21-17, 21-14 win in the semi-final round of the event.
