Congress accuses govt about NRI Policy

Hyderabad: Questioning the TRS government on its NRI Policy, the Opposition parties today demanded that the State government convene Assembly special session to discuss Gulf victims’ problems.

The TPCC NRI Cell organized a seminar on ‘Gulf Workers Welfare—Role of Governments’ at Golden Jubilee Hall, Exhibition Grounds, Nampally here on Tuesday. Participating in the seminar, PCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy has alleged that the TRS government did nothing to the Gulf victims. He said the migrant laborers faced a lot troubles in separate Telangana State than in previous united Andhra Pradesh State.

Stating that five bodies from Gulf were coming to the State every day, Uttam assured that the Congress would allocate Rs 100 crore for the welfare of Gulf labor every year after 2019 elections. The Congress would also extend Rs 5 lakh each to bereaved family of Gulf victims. He said the Congress would extend ‘Pravasi Bheema’ in Telangana State to the Gulf victims on the lines of Kerala State. “We will provide ration card and voter card to every Gulf worker”, Uttam announced.

Demanding that the State government bring back the workers staying in Gulf jails to the state by extending legal help to them, TPCC Chief asked the State government to extend Arogya Sree scheme to every Gulf worker. He said the State government must extend special training to those who want to go to Gulf countries by setting up legal centers and assured that the Congress would stand by the Gulf workers.

Former Minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy demanded that the State government count the immigrant labor from Telangana staying across the world. Former PCC Chief Ponnala Laxmaiah alleged that the TRS government was sleeping like a Kumbha Karna for the last three years with regard to Gulf victims.

AICC secretary RC Kuntia alleged that the agents in Gulf countries were violating the labour acts and demanded the centre to strengthen the Immigrant Labour Act immediately.

Former Minister and TDP senior leader E Peddi Reddy said that the people were going to Gulf countries by doing debts. The labourer were being deceived in the hands of middlemen, he alleged and said that justice meted out to Gulf victims during last Congress party government. He asked the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to tell as to what he was doing to the Gulf victims as a son of the soil and demanded the latter to convene the Assembly to discuss on Gulf victims.

CLP Deputy leader T Jeevan Reddy has stated that it was atrocious on the part of the state government as it was failed to extend single paisa to the families of the persons died in Gulf countries. It was unfortunate that the state government removed the ration cards and voter card of the Gulf labourer in the state. It was shameful on the part of the TRS government that it was indulging in publicity with the dead bodies of Gulf victims.

TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram said that the labour facing lot of troubles in Gulf countries. The people were going to Gulf countries as they were not getting livelihood in the state. Asian countries labour were main source for the economical system of Gulf countries. The state government has to see the problems of the Gulf victims in a humanitarian angle. The state government has to curb the irregularities of the agents and immigration officials. The government has to send the labour to the Gulf countries through its agencies. It was not correct on the part of the state government to remove the ration card of the Gulf victims. The government has to extend help in practice instead of expressing lip sympathy. The government has to revive NRI department again. The governments have to concentrate on providing job opportunity to the people here. The TJAC would extend its full support to the main opposition party Congress in regard to Gulf labourer issue, Kodandaram said.

CPI former MLA Gunda Mallesham said that the Chief Minister worked as Gulf agent in the past. The Chief Minister knows the problems of the Gulf labour very well. The Chief Minister was acting in a manner that he was solving the problems of the Gulf victims. The governments were failing in controlling the fake agents totally, he alleged.

Opposition leader in Legislative Assembly Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that for the first time the then YSR government set up special wing with Rs.4.5 crore for the sake of Gulf victims. The present TRS government left the problems of the Gulf victims to the wind. CITU leader Saibabu alleged that the Chief Minister was not in a position to see the problems of the Gulf labour. The Chief Minister was confined to the mere words instead of doing something for them.
