Congress leaders distribute sarees among poor in Old City

Hyderabad Dec 10 (Maxim News): The Congress leaders on Saturday distributed sarees among the poor women in the Old City as part of celebration of 70th birthday of AICC President Sonia Gandhi.

TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy participated in the saree distribution programme held at Kabutarkhana in the Old City. GHCC Minorities Department Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, TPCC Spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin, ex-corporators Mohammed Ghouse and Meraj Mohammed and other senior leaders were also present on the occassion.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Sonia Gandhi had a clear vision for empowerment of poor people and therefore, as the chairperson of previous UPA Government she brought in several legislations like Food Security Act to help the poor. He said that the previous Congress government in the State has implemented several welfare schemes for the upliftment of poor people. They include construction of houses for the weaker sections under Indiramma Housing and other schemes. However, he said that the present TRS Government has stopped the implementation of all welfare schemes and completely neglected the poor.

Addressing the gathering, Abdullah Sohail accused the present TRS Government and also the MIM of neglecting the welfare of poor people living in the Old City. He said poor people in the Old City have remained poor over the last few decades while the MIM leaders turned into millionaires. He also slammed the MIM leadership for the silence over the demonisation move which has badly hit the poor classes of Old City. He assured that the Congress party would become the voice of poor of Old City and fight with the government to resolve their problems.

Ex-Corporator Mohammed Ghouse said that the Congress party has been strengthening its base in the Old City and would soon emerge as a strong political force. (Maxim News)
