Dr MCR HRD Institute Conducts a Workshop on the Proposed National Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Development Goals

“The formulation of Department-wise strategies and action plans and their implementation, as a part of the mandate of the proposed Centre, will be instrumental in realizing the dream of ‘Bangaru Telangana’”-Consensus at the Workshop

Hyderabad, April 29 (Maxim News): Dr. MCR HRD Institute of Telangana conducted a high-profile workshop to discuss the structure, functions, and modalities of the proposed “National Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

The deliberations at the Workshop resulted in a consensus that the Resolution relating to 17 SDGs, 169 targets, and 304 indicators adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on January 1st, 2016 and signed by 196 countries including India, is of great relevance to the multifaceted development of Telangana. “The formulation of broad strategies and detailed actions plansfor all the Government departments, aimed at achieving the physical and financial targets relating to all the SDGs,will give a big boost to the efforts aimed at realizing the dream of “Bangaru Telangana”.

A.K. Jain, Advisor, NITI Aayog, New Delhi appreciated the proposal of Dr. MCR HRD Institute to establish the National Centre of Excellence on SDGs and hoped that other States too will come forward to do the same. He called upon the proposed Centre to identify gaps in the existing strategies, recommend best practices to address them, and create a knowledge database for inter-sectoral learnings.
B. P. Acharya, Special Chief Secretary Planning & Director General, Dr. MCR HRD Institute said that realizing the goals of the SGDs at village, mandal, district, and State levels will result in multiple beneficial outcomes in terms of health, prosperity, and wellbeing of the people of Telangana. “The competitive advantage of Dr. MCR HRD Institute, in terms of its location, rich human and infrastructural facilities at its disposal, and its networking with different institutions of eminencewill be greatly instrumental inthe successful launching and effective functioning of the proposed Centre in Telangana but also in contributing to the same in other States across the country”, he stated and added that achievement of SDG goals will improve the ranking of India in different global indices.

Ms. SupriyaKhound, State Technical Officer, UNDP shared the details relating to the establishment of the Centre for SGDs in Assam. Ravi Siriki, Consultant, UNICEF, B Kalyan C, Director General, EPTRI, and others made presentations on different aspects of the proposed Centre.

The workshop was attended by senior representatives from UNICEF, UNDP, Environmental Protection Training & Research Institute (EPTRI), Council for Social Development, Centre for Good Governance, senior functionaries from Planning Department, Government of Telangana, etc. (Maxim News)
