Shah Rukh Khan: Salman and I keep making comebacks

It has been several years since they put their conspicuous animosity behind them, but even today, a Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan gettogether instantly gathers the attention of both, the duo’s fans, and the media.

Despite their cycling rides together, promotions of one another’s films and cordial exchanges at various social outings, one would have expected that a reunion of the Khans for the big screen would have elicited ample buzz. Yet, news of the duo pairing up for Kabir Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ reached the public, sans much drama. Shah Rukh offers a reason. “In the last three years, we have only made come backs, be it on the small screen, at Iftar parties, in ‘Bigg Boss’ (in 2015), at award functions or at each other’s homes,” he says cheekily.

Sharing the experience of shooting for the historic war-drama, in which he does an extended cameo, Shah Rukh says, “It was a great evening. I was unwell so we started at around 10.30 pm and wrapped up at 4 in the morning, which is a regular hour for Salman and me. The two of us have always had fun working together, and shooting for the film was no different.”

The actor insists that their previous collaborations have made them familiar with one another’s working processes. “Our scene comes at a very special juncture in the film. But I can’t tell you more about it right now as it would be wrong to talk anything about someone else’s film until they decide to do it. I have known Kabir since his college days and I couldn’t deny the request of two of my friends,” he adds. Shah Rukh says that his equation with Salman goes beyond friendship, “People need to realise that we have known each other for almost 25 years. My relationship extends to his family as well. They’ve always been like my family too.”

This will be their first big screen outing together since 2007, when they featured in the title track of Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om.
