He said that this practice was started by Muslim League’s Syed Saadullah in 1937. Assam government minister and BJP leader Piyush Hazarika posted one. He said that the Assam Assembly has today done away with the tradition of postponing Friday prayers for 2 hours every Friday. He also said that this practice was introduced by Saadullah’s Muslim League government in colonial Assam. BJP MLA Biswajit Phakan said that since the time of the British, a two-hour interval was given for Friday prayers in the Assam Assembly.

The interval was given from 12 noon to 2 pm, which Muslim MLAs used to offer Friday prayers every Friday, but now this rule has been changed and there will be no interval. (Maxim News)
