Delhi Bans Fuel for 15-Year-Old Vehicles To Control Air Pollution

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared this decision following extensive meetings with officials to discuss pollution control measures.

Government’s Plan to Identify and Restrict Old Vehicles

Minister Sirsa stated that the government will use special gadgets at petrol pumps to identify and block fuel supply to vehicles over 15 years old. A dedicated team will also be assigned to track such vehicles. He further criticized the previous administration for failing to use available funds to address air and water pollution in the city.

Additional Anti-Pollution Measures

To further combat pollution, the government has planned several initiatives, including:

– A massive plantation drive involving Delhi University students.

– Identifying large organizations contributing significantly to pollution.

– Mandatory installation of smog guns at high-rises, hotels, commercial complexes, and the              Delhi airport.

– Developing new forests on barren land.

Cloud Seeding to Induce Rain

The government is also seeking permission for cloud seeding, a technique used to artificially induce rainfall. Minister Sirsa emphasized that this method would be employed during severe pollution periods to help clear Delhi’s air.

Current Air Quality Status

Despite ongoing pollution concerns, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 126 on Saturday, falling in the ‘moderate’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
