Two Hawala Operators Arrested in Punjab; ₹17.6 Lakh Cash Seized

Chandigarh/Hyderabad, March 16 (Maxim News): In a major crackdown on drug networks, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested two hawala operators, identified as Sukhjit Singh and Ranbir Singh, for their involvement in illegal financial transactions linked to drug trafficking. Authorities seized ₹17.6 lakh in cash and $4,000, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced on Sunday.

These arrests are part of an ongoing investigation related to the seizure of 561 grams of heroin by the Gharinda Police Station in the Amritsar district. During interrogation, the accused revealed their connections to hawala financing and drug supply chains.

Along with the cash, police also recovered a laptop containing critical transaction records, further exposing the hawala network.

Taking to social media platform X, DGP Yadav emphasized that the police are systematically dismantling the drug trade ecosystem by targeting traffickers, financiers, and enablers. He warned that anyone involved in this illegal trade would face severe consequences. (Maxim News)
