AIMIM Intensifies Groundwork in Hyderabad Ahead of GHMC Elections

Hyderabad, June 28, 2025(Maxim News): With the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections fast approaching, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has stepped up its efforts across Hyderabad by initiating civic works and boosting grassroots engagement.

Over the last month, several localities—particularly in the Old City—have witnessed an uptick in developmental activities, including new road constructions, water pipeline installations, and sewerage upgrades. These works are being seen as clear indicators of election-season readiness.

Visible Civic Action Across Constituencies

Areas like Hussainialam, Fateh Darwaza, Falaknuma, Bandlaguda, Jangammet, Yakutpura, Dabeerpura, and Lalithabagh are witnessing long-pending road works and other infrastructure improvements.

“After six years, we’re finally getting a new road in our colony. It’s quite obvious that the GHMC elections are around the corner,” said a resident of Jangammet.

MLAs and MLCs Lead the Ground Campaign

AIMIM MLAs and MLCs have been conducting padayatras, regularly meeting with citizens, and coordinating closely with GHMC, HMWS&SB, and TS Southern Power Distribution Company officials to address civic grievances.

  • Yakutpura MLA Jaffer Hussain Meraj, who narrowly won his seat in the recent Assembly elections, is visibly active in his constituency, focusing on addressing the area’s long-standing civic issues.
  • MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has been consistently interacting with government officials to ensure the timely resolution of public complaints.

Political Competition Heating Up

In Yakutpura, the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) is expected to field candidates, adding to the electoral intensity. MBT’s rising influence, especially after a close contest in the Assembly elections, could potentially impact AIMIM’s stronghold.

Meanwhile, in the Nampally constituency, a fierce rivalry is brewing between AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain and Congress leader Feroz Khan. Both parties are keen to capture a majority of GHMC seats from this key urban region.

“There’s neck-and-neck competition between MIM and Congress. Both leaders are aggressively planning their strategies,” shared a local resident from Bazar Guard.

AIMIM Eyes a Bigger Share in GHMC

In the 2020 GHMC elections, AIMIM won 44 seats. With renewed focus and visible groundwork, the party is aiming to cross the 50-seat mark this time around and strengthen its influence over Hyderabad’s municipal governance.
