Fake Currency Worth Rs. 5,000 Deposited At ATM In SR Nagar, Police Launch Probe

Hyderabad, June 28, 2025: In a suspected case of currency fraud, unidentified individuals deposited fake Indian currency notes worth ₹5,000 into a cash deposit machine (CDM) at a private bank’s ATM located in SR Nagar, near Ameerpet, Hyderabad.

According to police sources, the incident came to light when bank staff members Shravan Kumar and Sai Kumar Goud, who were conducting routine cash collection, identified the counterfeit ₹500 notes inside the machine.

Upon detecting the fake notes, the employees immediately alerted both bank authorities and local police. CCTV footage retrieved from the ATM center revealed that an unidentified man, masquerading as a regular customer, had deposited the fake notes.

Following a formal complaint lodged by the bank manager, SR Nagar Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to forgery and counterfeit currency. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and tracing the suspect’s identity.

Investigation Underway

A police official stated, “We are examining the CCTV footage for further leads. The accused may be part of a larger fake currency network. Efforts are underway to nab the culprit at the earliest.”

This incident has once again raised concerns about the security of cash deposit machines and the potential misuse by criminals to circulate counterfeit currency.
