The deceased, Kalya Kanakayya (30), a resident of Pittalonigudem village near Enabavi, was reportedly addicted to alcohol and had a history of domestic violence. He frequently harassed both his wives and villagers, causing fear and unrest in the community.

The turning point came after Kanakayya allegedly killed his sister-in-law in a drunken rage on May 18. Since then, he had been absconding, occasionally returning to the village to intimidate his wives and residents, often while under the influence.

On Monday night, Kanakayya reportedly threatened his wives with an axe. In what appears to have been an act of self-defense and retaliation, the two women overpowered him and used the same axe to kill him, police said.

The local police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the killing.

The incident has shocked the residents of the village and sparked discussions around domestic violence, substance abuse, and the psychological toll such environments impose on victims.
