“I am senior to Ponnam Prabhakar in the party. It is the Congress high command which decides on the Jubilee Hills candidate, not the Minister,” he said, according to reports.

Earlier, the Minister had laid the foundation for development works in the constituency on Saturday and expressed confidence that Congress would win the bye-election comfortably.

Anjan Kumar Yadav is among the party aspirants keen to contest the bye-election. Even before the party announced its candidate, he had begun campaigning in the constituency and conducting programmes.

He also pointed out that BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao had taken several measures to strengthen his party in Greater Hyderabad, citing the example of Mahmood Ali who was made MLC and later Home Minister, and the late Nayini Narasimha Reddy who also rose from MLC to Home Minister.

Responding to some Congress leaders who argue that only one member from a family should be offered posts or tickets, Anjan Kumar Yadav questioned why other leaders’ families had multiple members in positions of power.

“Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and his wife N Padmavathi Reddy are legislators. The Komatireddy brothers are MLAs. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s brother Mallu Ravi is an MP. Labour Minister Gaddam Vivek’s son is an MP and his brother is also an MLA,” he pointed out.

“My son Anil Kumar Yadav is an MP under the Youth Congress quota. Why should I be denied a ticket to contest the Jubilee Hills bye-election when other leaders’ brothers and family members can become MLAs and MPs?” he argued.

The former MP has repeatedly cited his seniority in the party while demanding a ticket to contest the Jubilee Hills bye-election. (Maxim News)
