Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that making students sing the national song in schools and colleges will help instill patriotism and respect for the nation from a young age. “Singing the national anthem in educational institutions will instill patriotism and respect in children from a young age,” he stated.
The Vande Mataram song holds a special place in India’s history as it became a call for unity during the freedom movement. Written by Bankimchandra Chatterjee on November 7, 1875, the song was published in his first novel, Anand Math. It inspired countless freedom fighters and became a symbol of India’s struggle for independence.

This year, the song completed 150 years on November 7. To mark the milestone, the central government decided to organize events and programs throughout the year. The 150th anniversary celebrations recently took place in Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended the event, said that the Vande Mataram song fills people with self-confidence.
Meanwhile, in many states, students already sing the Vande Mataram song during morning assemblies or prayer sessions. However, with the new directive in Uttar Pradesh, the decision is expected to standardize the practice across all educational institutions — from schools to universities.
