- Banjara Hills bastis inspection focuses on civic works
- Mayor reviews CC roads, water pipelines and sewerage projects
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi undertook an extensive inspection of bastis in the Banjara Hills Division to review the progress of ongoing civic works. The visit focused on infrastructure projects aimed at improving basic amenities in residential areas. The works include CC roads, drinking water pipelines and sewerage-related projects taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.
During the inspection, the Mayor visited several localities in the division. These included NBT Nagar, Uday Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, Sriram Nagar, Prem Nagar, Khaja Nagar and Bola Nagar. She interacted with residents during the tour and enquired about local civic issues. Meanwhile, officials briefed her on the status of the projects currently under execution.
The Mayor directed officials to speed up the remaining works. Many of the projects have already reached their final stages. This progress has been achieved within 20 days of the foundation laying. Therefore, the Mayor stressed the need to maintain the same pace until completion. Residents, meanwhile, expressed satisfaction with the speed of execution. They also conveyed their appreciation to the Mayor for giving priority to timely completion of works in the bastis.
Later, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi assured residents that pending works worth Rs 2 crore in the Banjara Hills Division would also be taken up without delay. She said the civic body would ensure that all sanctioned projects are completed as planned. The assurance came as residents highlighted the need for continued attention to infrastructure gaps in the area.
During the visit to NBT Nagar, parents raised concerns about Anganwadi Centre 2. The centre is currently functioning from a cramped rented room. They pointed out issues related to children’s health and safety due to lack of space. Responding to these concerns, the Mayor assured that steps would be initiated to construct a permanent building for the Anganwadi centre once suitable government land is identified.
She further said that discussions would be held with the District Collector to facilitate the process. The decision, she added, would be taken keeping the welfare of children in mind. The Mayor’s visit, therefore, highlighted both infrastructure progress and pending social needs in the Banjara Hills bastis.
