Liquor Prices Hiked in Konaseema Ahead of New Year

Amravathi/Hyderabad, Dec. 31 (Maxim News): Liquor prices were increased in Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district ahead of New Year celebrations, triggering sharp reactions from consumers and prompting demands for excise department action.

According to local reports, liquor traders in Konaseema raised prices by Rs 50 per full bottle. However, consumers alleged that traders implemented the hike without formal government approval. As a result, liquor buyers expressed anger and urged excise officials to take immediate action against arbitrary pricing.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government announced special relaxations in liquor shop timings for New Year festivities. Authorities permitted liquor outlets to operate until midnight on December 31 and January 1. This relaxation applies to wine shops, bars, in house license holders, and permit room licensees across the state.

In addition, the government allowed hotels operated under the AP Tourism Department to serve liquor until 12 midnight on both days. Officials clarified that the extended timings apply only for these two days. On other days, regular operating hours will remain unchanged.

The government advised citizens to celebrate the New Year peacefully and responsibly. It also directed organizers and license holders to ensure public order. Furthermore, officials warned that police would take strict action against any activities that disturb law and order during the celebrations.

Excise authorities are expected to review complaints regarding liquor prices in Konaseema district. Consumers said enforcement is necessary to prevent exploitation during high demand periods such as New Year celebrations. (Maxim News
