Changes To 114 Rafale Fighter Jets: Dassault Company To Transfer Technology
Delhi/Hyderabad, Jan 16 (Maxim News): It is known that India is buying Rafale jets from the French company Dassault. However, a media report has revealed that the Indian government has imposed certain conditions on the company regarding the purchase of 114 new Rafale jets. The government has instructed the company to strictly implement those conditions. It seems that a rule has been set that technology transfer should take place.
The Indian government has ordered Dassault to add Indian weapons, missiles and ammunition to 114 fighter jets. As part of this, the company will have to provide secure data links. The government has stated in its conditions that the new Rafale aircraft will be built in a way that allows digital integration with Indian radars and sensors. The conditions imposed by India will require Dassault to change the software for its fighter jets’ onboard computer system.
The conditions also include cooperation in technology transfer. Engine manufacturer Safran and avionics company Thales will be part of this. The IAF bought 36 Rafale aircraft in 2015. The Rafale has been upgraded for avionics, weapons and missiles. The F3R version is currently being used. The French Air Force is using it. The latest F4 version has been released by Dassault Aviation Company. However, India wants to make a new Rafale by mixing the F-4 and F-5 versions.
The Defense Ministry is reportedly planning to sign a deal worth around $8 billion for 114 Rafales. The move is aimed at strengthening India’s air force. The new jets will be manufactured under the Make in India scheme. Dassault has launched a new venture with Reliance. India currently has 36 Rafale fighter jets. The Navy has ordered another 26 new aircraft of this variant.
A Rafale maintenance and repair center has been set up at the Ambala air base. French engine company Safran had last year said it would set up an MRO center in Hyderabad for engine manufacturing. There is a great need to increase the number of fighter aircraft in the Indian Air Force. Currently, the number of squadrons has reached 29. It is estimated that the strength of the air force is very low compared to the last six decades.(Maxim News)
