Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced fresh reforms in the Telangana Transport Department, stating that permanent vehicle registration will now be done only at vehicle showrooms. Speaking to the media, he said the new system has come into force from today. He clarified that people who buy new vehicles no longer need to visit Transport Department offices for permanent registration.

The minister said the permanent vehicle registration process will be completed at the showroom where the vehicle is purchased. Therefore, motorists can avoid separate visits to transport offices. He explained that dealers will upload the required documents online and complete the registration process. This step, he said, will make services easier and faster for the public.

Meanwhile, Ponnam Prabhakar said several reforms are underway in the Transport Department to improve public access. He said the department is working to provide all services online. He added that the Telangana government has joined the Sarathi portal. Through this portal, transport related services and facilities will become more accessible to people across the state.

The minister also said the Transport Department has introduced an EV policy and a scrap policy. According to him, these initiatives form part of a wider effort to modernise the department. He stated that many reforms have already been implemented to improve service delivery. As a result, people can expect simpler procedures and reduced dependency on physical visits.

Later, the minister reiterated that the new registration policy has taken effect from today, which is Saturday. He said officials have received clear instructions to ensure smooth implementation. He again stressed that buyers of new vehicles no longer need to go to Transport Department offices for permanent registration, as the entire process will now be handled at showrooms.

He said this change applies wherever a vehicle is purchased. The minister said the aim is to save time for citizens and reduce inconvenience. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with the Transport Department as it rolls out these reforms.

Therefore, with permanent vehicle registration now shifting to showrooms, the Telangana Transport Department expects a more streamlined and user friendly system. The minister maintained that these steps reflect the government’s focus on improving access and efficiency in transport services.
