Telangana MLA defection case sees Speaker issue notices
Telangana MLA defection | Hyderabad, Jan 28 (Maxim News) A key development emerged on Wedneday in the Telangana MLA defection case, with Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar issuing notices to Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender.
The Speaker also issued separate notices to BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, who filed the disqualification petition.
Both legislators were directed to appear for a hearing on January 30, according to official communication from the Speaker’s office.
The notices come amid scrutiny of pending disqualification petitions involving ten MLAs. Earlier, the Speaker gave a clean chit to Arikepudi Gandhi, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, Bandla Krishna Mohan, Prakash Goud, Tellam Venkata Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, and Kale Yadaiah. They were formally recognized as BRS MLAs.
However, proceedings related to Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, and Dr Sanjay remained pending until now.
Telangana MLA defection case gains momentum after Supreme Court notice
The Telangana MLA defection case gained momentum after the Supreme Court issued a contempt notice to the Speaker on January 19. The court warned of strict action if delays continued in deciding the disqualification petitions.
Against this backdrop, the notice issued to Danam Nagender has drawn attention. While continuing as a BRS MLA, he contested the 2024 general elections as a Congress candidate for Parliament. This development is cited as a key basis for the defection allegation.
Political circles suggest that action in the Telangana MLA defection case is now unavoidable.
Meanwhile, speculation continues that Danam Nagender may resign as MLA before any disqualification order and opt for a by-election.
The next hearing is expected to clarify the course of the case. (Maxim News)
