Union Budget 2026: FM Nirmala Sitharaman’s Opening Speech
Delhi/Hyderabad, Feb 1 (Maxim News): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the Union Budget 2026-27 in Parliament. The Finance Minister’s speech began at 11 am. Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting the budget for the 9th time in a row.
Speaking in Parliament, the Finance Minister said, “We are moving forward with a 7 percent growth rate. We are taking steps towards a developed India. This budget is a youth power budget. We have prepared the budget to compete with the global market. We are moving forward despite uncertain conditions in the world. We will move forward as the world’s largest economy. We will reduce our dependence on exports in the future. The goal is to meet the aspirations of the people. Thank you to the people who are contributing to sustainable development.”
For the first time in the history of India, the Union Budget is being presented on a Sunday. Previously, budgets were never presented on holidays. Budgets were presented only on regular working days. In 1999, the budget was to be presented on Sunday, February 28.
As a result, the then Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha presented the budget in Parliament a day earlier, that is, on Saturday, February 27. Previously, the budget was presented in Parliament on the evening of February 28. A few years ago, changes were made to present the budget on February 1 at 11 am. (Maxim News)
