Ibrahimpatnam Municipal Election To Be Completed In Three Weeks: HC
Hyderabad, Mar 3 (Maxim News) : The Telangana High Court directed authorities to complete the Ibrahimpatnam municipal chairperson and vice chairperson election within three weeks.
The court instructed the State Election Commission and the Rangareddy District Collector to finish the process without delay.
The court said councillors must express their support freely without any pressure. It clarified that the Returning Officer holds the final authority to decide on the chairperson election.
The bench ordered officials to remove the prevailing uncertainty and announce the new governing body within the stipulated time.
Court clears path for Ibrahimpatnam municipal election
The dispute arose after 19th ward BRS councillor Akula Yadagiri went missing on the day of the election.
His son filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court, alleging that rival party leaders had kidnapped him.
Following the petition, the court initially stayed the chairperson and vice chairperson election.
However, lawyers representing BRS leader Sudarshan Reddy argued that the election had concluded before the stay order, and that their candidate secured a majority.
After hearing both sides, the High Court issued its final verdict directing authorities to complete the Ibrahimpatnam municipal election within three weeks. (Maxim News)
