- Israel Hezbollah conflict escalates with strikes in Lebanon
Hyderabad, March 16: Israel Defense Forces said it carried out a wave of strikes on Hezbollah infrastructure across Lebanon. The military confirmed the operation on Sunday and said the attacks targeted locations linked to the militant group. The strikes come amid ongoing tensions and fighting along the Israel Lebanon front.
According to the Israeli military, the strikes were carried out on Saturday. During the operation, the army hit launch sites in the Al Qatrani area in southern Lebanon. The military said Hezbollah militants were planning to launch rockets from these locations imminently. Therefore, Israeli forces struck the sites before the planned attacks.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army also said it dismantled command centres used by the Hezbollah elite Radwan Force in Beirut. Officials said militants allegedly launched attacks on Israel from these facilities. The developments were reported by the media.
Evacuation orders issued in Beirut neighbourhoods
At the same time, the Israeli army issued immediate evacuation orders for residents living in several neighbourhoods of the Lebanese capital. Israeli Army spokesman Avichay Adraee asked residents in Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al Barajneh, Tahwitat al Ghadir and Shiyah to leave their homes.
In his statement, Adraee urged residents “to leave immediately and not to return until further notice.” He said the Israeli army would “forcefully operate” in those areas due to what he described as Hezbollah activities. He also warned that the military could target anyone present near Hezbollah facilities, personnel, or military equipment in those locations.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah said on Sunday that it was also targeting several Israeli troop positions. According to the group, the strikes were aimed at villages located close to the border.
The conflict has already caused significant casualties. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Israeli air raids have killed 826 people in Lebanon since the start of the latest war. Officials said the current phase of fighting began on March 2.
Diplomatic signals amid continued fighting
Meanwhile, diplomatic discussions have also surfaced alongside the military actions. Joseph Aoun proposed negotiations with Israel. However, Gideon Saar said there were no plans to hold direct talks with Lebanon in the coming days.
At the same time media reported that Israel and Lebanon were expected to hold direct talks. The report added another dimension to the ongoing diplomatic speculation.
Earlier, Emmanuel Macron said the Lebanese government was ready to engage in “direct talks” with Israel. Macron also offered to host negotiations in Paris. He warned that “everything must be done to prevent Lebanon from descending into chaos.”
Meanwhile, Antonio Guterres recently said the Lebanese people have been “dragged into” the war. He called for an end to the fighting as Israeli forces continue operations across several parts of Lebanon.
