Hyderabad, April 16: Differences have emerged within the Opposition over the delimitation bill debate in the Parliament of India. The situation follows the introduction of the women’s reservation and delimitation bills during the special session.
The Indian National Congress has urged all Opposition MPs to attend the voting. Leaders warned that absence could indirectly support the government’s position.
Rahul Gandhi criticised the stance of some allies. He said non participation in voting would weaken Opposition efforts. He called for unity in opposing the bill.
From Trinamool Congress, Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose cited election commitments. She said party MPs may face difficulty attending due to West Bengal Assembly polls.
Meanwhile, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam confirmed its MPs will participate. Party leader T. R. Baalu said members will attend despite election engagements in Tamil Nadu.
Opposition parties remain divided on linking women’s reservation with delimitation. Some leaders have supported the reservation bill but opposed its implementation through delimitation.
The developments highlight growing strains within the Opposition bloc. The upcoming vote is expected to test its unity in Parliament.
