Hyderabad, may 11: India and Trinidad and Tobago signed eight bilateral agreements covering tourism, healthcare, Ayurveda, education and cultural cooperation during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s official visit to the Caribbean nation.
Jaishankar visited Trinidad and Tobago on Friday and Saturday and held talks with Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar in Port of Spain. Both sides discussed strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation in multiple sectors.
The agreements focus on improving collaboration in public health, traditional medicine, tourism promotion, digital education and people to people exchanges. Officials from both countries said the agreements would help deepen strategic and economic relations between India and the Caribbean nation.
India Strengthens Caribbean Outreach
During the visit, Jaishankar also participated in community and educational programmes. He distributed laptops to students at a local school on behalf of the Government of India. The initiative aimed to support digital learning and educational development among students in Trinidad and Tobago.
India has been increasing engagement with Caribbean nations through development partnerships, cultural ties and educational support programmes. Trinidad and Tobago shares strong historical and cultural links with India because of its large Indian origin population.
The visit is part of India’s broader diplomatic outreach to strengthen relations with countries in the Caribbean region. Officials said both nations would continue cooperation in trade, healthcare, technology and cultural exchanges in the coming years.
