Hyderabad, May 20 (Maxim News): In a major boost to Hyderabad’s public transport system, the Central Government has given in principle approval for the second phase expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy met Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed several key infrastructure projects related to Hyderabad.
Speaking after the meeting, Kishan Reddy said discussions were held on urban infrastructure, sanitation and public transportation projects currently underway in Hyderabad.
During the meeting, the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project also came up for discussion. Kishan Reddy stated that the Union Minister gave a positive response and conveyed in principle approval for the project.
However, Khattar reportedly clarified that the Centre would take a final decision after receiving the Detailed Project Report (DPR) from the Telangana Government.
According to Kishan Reddy, both the Centre and the State Government are ready to share the project cost equally.
Telangana Proposes 162 Km Metro Expansion
Officials said the Telangana Government has already submitted proposals for a massive 162-kilometre expansion under Metro Phase 2.
The Centre will now examine the proposals and initiate further steps regarding approvals and funding.
The proposed expansion is expected to significantly improve connectivity across Hyderabad, especially in rapidly developing residential, commercial and suburban areas.
The second phase of the metro project is being viewed as another major milestone in strengthening Hyderabad’s urban transportation network.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Government recently took over the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro project from L&T. (Maxim News)
