Officials said Potty appeared before the investigation team at the Police Headquarters in the morning and remained under questioning until evening.

Sources said the interrogation formed part of the final phase of the probe. The SIT is expected to submit its final report before the court next week.

The SIT had earlier informed the court that it completed investigations into two cases linked to the alleged loss of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols and the gold plated doorframes of the Sreekovil at the Sabarimala temple.

Investigators identified Potty as the prime accused in both cases.

The SIT had arrested him during the investigation. Later, he secured statutory bail after spending more than three months in judicial custody.

According to investigators, Potty had sponsored the replating of the temple’s gold plated artefacts. These items were sent to a private firm in Chennai in 2019 for electroplating.

The investigation team suspects that gold was removed from the gold covered plates during the replating process.

The Special Investigation Team was formed following directions issued by the Kerala High Court last year to investigate the alleged Sabarimala gold loss case.
