Hyderabad, Aug 7 (Maxim News) : The poetry collection Moosi Tarangalu, Simhavahini Shatakam was unveiled in Hyderabad, highlighting the city’s cultural heritage, Bonalu traditions and the significance of the Musi river.
Telangana Information and Public Relations Department Special Commissioner Mukunda Reddy and Musi Rejuvenation Corporation Managing Director E. Venkata Narasimha Reddy jointly released the book on Friday.
The event took place at the Musi Rejuvenation Corporation office in Masab Tank. GHMC Zonal Commissioner Solipeta Srinivas Reddy presided over the programme.
Senior journalist and poet Varkala Yadagiri authored the collection. The work combines poetry on the Musi river with descriptions of Hyderabad’s historic Bonalu celebrations.
The book also explores the cultural traditions and customs associated with the month long Bonalu festivities across Hyderabad.
Venkata Narasimha Reddy said the collection presents the importance of Bonalu through traditional Telugu poetry. He noted that the celebrations begin at the Sri Jagadambika temple at Golconda Fort.
The book also covers the Bonalu celebrations at Balkampet Renuka Yellamma temple and the Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad.
It further describes the festivities at the historic Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali temple. These celebrations form an important part of Hyderabad’s cultural identity.
The author also traces the historical importance of the Musi river, once closely linked with the daily life of Hyderabad’s residents.
Venkata Narasimha Reddy said the collection presents the government’s Musi rejuvenation efforts through literary expression. He added that the work brings traditional Telugu poetic literature to contemporary readers.
Mukunda Reddy praised Yadagiri for combining journalism and poetry in the new work. He said the book highlights both Musi development and Hyderabad’s historic Bonalu traditions.
He also noted that Yadagiri has contributed to journalism for several decades. His experience, he said, helped bring the city’s cultural history and traditions into the collection.
Srinivas Reddy said the book records several aspects of Hyderabad’s heritage for future generations. He said its traditional literary style could attract readers interested in Telugu poetry and the city’s cultural history.
Yadagiri said he had observed the Musi river for nearly four and a half decades. His long association with the river, along with his interest in history and culture, inspired him to write the collection.
The programme was attended by Musi Rejuvenation Corporation Director Vishnuvardhan Rao, Bhaskara Rao and others.
The participants congratulated Yadagiri and appreciated his effort to document Hyderabad’s cultural traditions through poetry. (Maxim News)
