Hyderabad, August 28: Bihar city managers have praised HYDRAA for removing lake encroachments and restoring water bodies in Hyderabad.
The visiting officials said protecting and restoring lakes in the heart of a city remains a major challenge. They also appreciated HYDRAA’s efforts to protect urban lakes and the environment.
A team of city managers from Bihar visited Hyderabad as part of the Leadership Development Programme for Managing Urban Transformations. The Administrative Staff College of India conducts the programme.
The team inspected lake protection and restoration works carried out by HYDRAA on Friday. Officials took the team to Nalla Cheruvu in Kukatpally to explain the restoration process.
Vimos Technocrats Director Younus explained the work to the visitors. He outlined the steps taken from removing encroachments to the present stage of lake restoration.
Nalla Cheruvu Restoration Helps Reduce Flood Risk
HYDRAA officials explained how lake restoration has helped reduce flood risks in the surrounding residential areas. Thousands of homes now stand around Nalla Cheruvu, creating a largely built up urban landscape.
The lake provides an important pathway for rainwater in the area, officials said. They also explained that improved inlets and outlets have helped manage the flow of rainwater.
Local residents told the visiting IAS officers that groundwater levels have improved compared with last year. The team also toured the lake surroundings and inspected the newly developed bund.
The visitors further observed a play area created for children near the lake. Officials explained the conditions that existed before restoration and the measures taken afterward.
They also discussed lake boundary protection, surrounding area development and encroachment control. In addition, officials explained measures to protect urban water resources.
The Bihar city managers appreciated HYDRAA’s lake conservation and rejuvenation initiatives. They said the field visit gave them a direct understanding of challenges in protecting urban water bodies.
The officials also gained insights into the methods used to address those challenges. The visit formed part of their wider learning on managing urban transformation.
