Kodangal, Sept. 28: Authorities have demolished 84 houses and shops in Kodangal as part of a road expansion project, triggering protests over compensation and rehabilitation.
The demolitions took place under police security in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Assembly constituency. Affected families alleged that authorities demolished their properties without providing compensation or alternative accommodation.
Several residents said they had spent years building their homes and shops. They expressed distress over losing their properties and demanded immediate government assistance.
Kodangal Demolition Trigger Compensation Demands
Residents have demanded compensation for the demolished properties. They have also sought alternative house sites and Indiramma housing for affected families.
Meanwhile, police detained BRS leaders who were preparing to protest over the demolitions. Police personnel were deployed in the affected areas as bulldozers continued the demolition work.
Residents questioned the need for extensive road expansion in the small town. They argued that constructing a bypass road could provide an alternative to demolishing houses and shops.
Affected families also expressed concern over the lack of rehabilitation arrangements. They said the demolitions had left several families without shelter and disrupted the livelihoods of shop owners.
Former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy demanded compensation for affected families and the allocation of alternative plots. He warned that he would launch an agitation if the government failed to provide relief.
The demolitions have heightened tensions in Kodangal, with affected residents continuing to demand compensation and rehabilitation.
