Internet/Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News): Delhi Police have arrested a man accused of defrauding women constables by posing as a wealthy businessman and promising marriage.
The accused, identified as Vikrant Tomar, allegedly used Instagram to display luxury cars and an extravagant lifestyle. Police suspect that nearly 20 women constables from the same batch may have been targeted.
The case came to light after a woman constable posted at Karol Bagh police station filed a complaint. She alleged that Tomar cheated her of approximately ₹24 lakh. Police are investigating the suspected wider fraud and identifying other potential victims.
Luxury Lifestyle Used to Gain Women Constables’ Trust
According to investigators, Tomar presented himself on social media as a successful businessman. He allegedly used photographs and videos featuring expensive cars and luxury outings to impress women.
Police suspect he gained their trust through personal relationships and promises of marriage. He allegedly sought money under different pretexts after establishing contact.
Investigators also suspect that Tomar rented luxury cars for short periods to reinforce his wealthy image. He allegedly used the same vehicles to impress different women.
Police are examining whether the accused obtained information about potential targets through his live-in partner. She is also a woman constable with Delhi Police, according to reports. However, her alleged role has not been established.
Police are also tracing financial transactions linked to the alleged fraud. Investigators are examining accounts reportedly connected to an online betting platform.
According to media reports, Tomar is already facing five cheating cases registered at different police stations in Delhi. He was reportedly released on bail in June.
The Central District Cyber Police are continuing their investigation. Officers are working to identify additional complainants, establish the total amount allegedly obtained and trace the money.
Police have not confirmed that all 20 suspected victims lost money. The ₹24 lakh figure relates to the complaint that brought the case to light.
