Parties must publish criminal history of candidates within 48 hours of selection: Orders SC

New Delhi: The Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Tuesday expressed concern over rise in criminal cases against the politicians. During hearing a petition, he said that around 50 per cent of MPs are having criminal history.

In its earlier judgment, the top court instructed the political parties to publish criminal antecedents of candidates within 48 hours of the candidate’s selection. The apex court gave 10 days to the Centre for submission of the counter affidavit and added that a special bench will hear the cases against public representatives.
