TRS urges ECI to delete free symbols look like Car

Hyderabad, Oct.10 (NSS): Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to delete the certain Identical symbols from the list of free symbols as they are similar, identical and look-alike to its official symbol Car.

Government Whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, MLC Bhanu Prasad, TRS general secretary Soma Bharath Kumar called on Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj at his office here and submitted a memorandum seeking the deletion of eight symbols which look like similarly the TRS ‘s official symbol of Car.

The Car has been an official symbol of the TRS for the last two decades and the party fought many elections, including formation of the State government in Telangana twice.

The TRS party has been successful in fulfilling the promises and earned the confidence and affection of the people in the State. However, our opponents are indulging in dubious methods to damage our prospects in the elections. In this process, the opponents are taking the advantage of Identical symbols, including camera, chapati roller, dolli, road roller, soap dish, television, sewing machine and ship which are available in the list of free symbols to confuse the voters in choosing and recognising TRS symbol Car on the EVM machines, the party said in a memorandum.

It further said that often, these candidates who have contested elections on these identical symbols got votes more than recognised national political parties. Some candidates are conspiring to damage the winning prospects of TRS party.

The TRS leaders also mentioned in the memorandum, saying that some more identical symbols also have the potential in causing confusion among the voters of the TRS party and diverted the votes to the so-called independents.

The party urged the ECI to delete the following identical symbols from the list of free symbols and to conduct the by- election in a free and fair manner.(NSS)
