Hyderabad, April 13: Assam moves SC against bail to Pawan Khera after a Telangana High Court order granted him transit anticipatory bail. The state government challenged the relief given in a case linked to allegations against the Chief Minister’s wife.
The petition was filed on Sunday through advocate Shuvodeep Roy. Moreover, the Supreme Court may hear the matter later this week. The move comes days after the high court granted limited relief.
Assam Moves SC Against Bail to Pawan Khera
On April 10, the high court granted one week transit anticipatory bail to Pawan Khera. It allowed him time to approach the competent court in Assam. The court said his fear of arrest appeared reasonable.
However, the relief came with conditions. He must execute a personal bond of Rs one lakh with two sureties. He must also cooperate with the investigation and appear when required.
Additionally, he cannot leave the country without court permission. He must approach the jurisdictional court in Assam within the given time. He must also avoid public statements that may affect the probe.
The case stems from allegations made on April 5. Khera claimed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife had multiple passports and foreign assets. He alleged these were not declared in the election affidavit.
Following this, police registered a case at the Guwahati Crime Branch. The charges include false statements linked to elections and cheating under relevant laws. Khera had approached the high court on April 7 seeking protection from arrest.
