Hyderabad: The Baloch Republican Guards damaged a major gas pipeline transporting fuel from Balochistan’s Sui gas field to Karachi, according to local media reports. The militant group claimed responsibility for the attack that targeted the key energy infrastructure linking the gas field to Pakistan’s largest city.
The Baloch Republican Guards said its fighters carried out the attack on Wednesday evening. According to a statement by BRG spokesperson Dostain Baloch, the group targeted a 36 inch diameter gas pipeline near the Kashmore region in Pakistan’s Sindh province. The fighters reportedly used explosive materials during the operation.
The explosion severely damaged the pipeline that carries natural gas from Sui to Karachi. As a result, the attack disrupted a key energy route supplying fuel from Balochistan to the port city. The Baloch Republican Guards also repeated its opposition to what it described as the exploitation of Balochistan’s natural resources.
In the statement, the group warned that it would continue targeting such activities. The warning came as militant groups in the region have increased attacks in recent days. Meanwhile, another militant group also claimed responsibility for a separate series of attacks in Balochistan.
The Balochistan Liberation Front said it carried out coordinated attacks against Pakistani forces in the Tump area of Balochistan. In a statement to the media, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said the fighters launched the operation on March 8 in the Apsi Kahn area near Tump.
According to the statement, several BLF units surrounded two sections of a Pakistani military checkpoint at the Apsi Kahn and Shapchar junction. The fighters then launched attacks using mortars, sniper rifles, rockets, light machine guns and grenade launchers.
The group claimed that the first assault lasted about an hour. It said six Pakistani soldiers were killed and several others were injured during the attack. The BLF also claimed that the operation later expanded to include attacks on three more military checkpoints between Apsi Kahn and Shapchar.
The group said five more soldiers were killed and several others were injured in the subsequent attacks. The spokesperson further alleged that BLF fighters shot down a quadcopter drone deployed by Pakistani forces to track the attackers.
The statement also claimed that BLF fighters detonated an improvised explosive device that destroyed a vehicle and killed four additional soldiers. The explosion occurred when a Pakistani military unit moved between Abdoui and Shapchar to retrieve bodies and evacuate injured personnel.
Separately, the group said its fighters set two gas tanker vehicles on fire on March 9 at the Josak Buleda Cross area near Turbat. The group alleged that the tankers were transporting gas supplies for industries in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
These incidents come amid increasing attacks by Baloch militant groups targeting Pakistani military and police forces across Balochistan. The recent attacks have reportedly caused casualties and damage to infrastructure in the region.
