New Delhi, Sept. 21: A Delhi court on Monday set aside an earlier order dismissing a complaint against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi over her alleged inclusion in the electoral roll before she became an Indian citizen.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne directed the magistrate court to examine the complaint afresh and pass a reasoned order.
The court also directed that the matter be considered after hearing the concerned parties and police.
The next hearing has been scheduled for September 29.
Delhi Court Orders Fresh Hearing In Sonia Gandhi Voter Roll Case
The complaint was filed by advocate Vikas Tripathi, who sought registration of an FIR against Gandhi.
Tripathi alleged that Gandhi’s name appeared in the New Delhi electoral roll in 1980, before she acquired Indian citizenship in April 1983.
He claimed that her name was removed from the roll in 1982 and appeared again in 1983.
A magistrate court had dismissed the complaint in September 2025. Tripathi then challenged that decision before the sessions court.
While setting aside the earlier order, Judge Gogne said it did not adequately explain the reasons for rejecting the complaint.
The court also noted that the magistrate had not called for a police status report or fully considered the investigating officer’s submissions.
The sessions court therefore remanded the matter to the magistrate for fresh consideration.
The latest order does not establish that Gandhi committed voter fraud or used forged documents. Those remain allegations in the complaint and are yet to be adjudicated.
