Good Friday Services and Passion Plays in Hyderabad
St. Mary’s Basilica in Secunderabad held a passion play at 7 am. It later conducted a solemn Holy Mass commemorating Jesus Christ’s Passion and veneration at 6 pm. The events were attended by many worshippers.
Other churches also held special programmes. These included the CSI Wesley Church at Clock Tower, St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Gunfoundry, and St. George’s Church on Abid Road. They organised day-long prayer sessions and reflections for the faithful.
Earlier in the day, many churches conducted passion plays and the Way of the Cross. Church youth performed these enactments. Therefore, the events created a strong spiritual atmosphere across the city.
Prayers in Multiple Languages Mark Good Friday
The services were conducted in multiple languages, including English, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. This helped cater to the diverse congregation in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, the participation reflected the inclusive nature of the observance.
Good Friday is observed in honour and remembrance of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. It follows Maundy Thursday, which recalls the Last Supper before Easter Sunday. Therefore, the day holds deep religious significance for Christians.
The crucifix, or cross, remains the most important symbol of the day. It represents the way Jesus Christ died. As a result, churches focused on prayer, reflection, and remembrance throughout the observance.
