Heavy Rainfall Alert Across Telangana as Low-Pressure System Intensifies
Heavy Rainfall Alert | Hyderabad, July 25: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Telangana, warning of heavy rainfall and strong winds over the coming weekend.
The warning follows the formation of a low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal, with additional weather disturbances stemming from a trough extending from the Arabian Sea over southern Chhattisgarh.
Gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h are expected to accompany the showers, adding to the adverse conditions.
The system has already begun to impact the state. On Thursday, many parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, witnessed continuous heavy rainfall, causing major disruptions in daily life. Streams and canals in rural regions began to overflow, with Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district receiving the highest rainfall at 6.5 cm.
Heavy Rainfall Alert | Other notable rainfall figures include:
- 5.7 cm in Sirpur (T) mandal’s Lonavelli
- 5.2 cm in Bejjuru
- 3 cm in Yelkapalli
- 2.6 cm in Ashwaraopet (Bhadradri Kothagudem district)
In total, rainfall was recorded at 836 locations across the state.
In Mulugu and Bhadradri districts, rivers such as kinnerasani, Murredu, Jilleru, and Thaliperu are flowing at dangerously high levels, submerging low-level bridges in parts of Bhupalapally and Khammam districts.
Flooding worsened in the Munneru region, prompting a swift rescue operation on Thursday. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police saved a group of cattle herders who were trapped in a ditch in Chinnamandava, Khammam, as water levels surged rapidly.
Authorities are urging residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel over the weekend.
