- LPG cylinder shortage affects hotels, eateries, and PG hostels
- KTR seeks measures on LPG cylinder shortage and black marketing
Hyderabad: LPG cylinder shortage has drawn urgent attention after BRS Working President K. Taraka Rama Rao urged the Union Government to intervene immediately. In a letter to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, KTR asked the Centre to address the severe shortage of commercial and domestic LPG cylinders.
KTR stated that the LPG cylinder shortage is already affecting several sectors. Hotels, eateries, PG hostels, and small food businesses are facing serious disruptions because of the supply problem. Therefore, he warned that many establishments could be forced to shut down if supplies are not restored quickly.
He said such closures could create severe hardship. Lakhs of workers and students depend on these services every day. Meanwhile, many small businesses rely heavily on regular LPG cylinder supply to keep their kitchens running. Without it, daily operations become difficult.
In his letter, KTR also suggested several practical measures to the central government. He proposed introducing a tiered LPG allocation system. This system would ensure that small vendors and vulnerable businesses receive priority supply during the LPG cylinder shortage.
He also recommended creating a real time public dashboard. This platform would provide transparent information on LPG cylinder availability across districts. According to KTR, such transparency could help businesses and consumers track supply more effectively.
Meanwhile, he urged the Union Government to introduce a temporary price freeze on commercial LPG cylinders. This step, he said, would prevent additional financial pressure on small businesses already struggling with the supply crisis.
KTR also raised concern about black marketing during the LPG cylinder shortage. He called for strict action against illegal diversion of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial use. According to him, such cylinders are often sold at inflated prices in the market.
In addition, he requested the Centre to treat PG hostels in IT corridor areas under a special protection category. These hostels accommodate lakhs of students and employees. Therefore, uninterrupted LPG cylinder supply is essential for their daily needs.
He also stressed that gas based crematoriums must be classified as essential services. This classification would ensure that their operations are not affected by the shortage of LPG cylinders.
KTR further highlighted that lakhs of daily wage workers depend on the hotel and food sector. If kitchens shut down due to the LPG cylinder shortage, many workers could lose their livelihoods.
Describing the situation as a serious crisis, he urged the Union Government to take immediate and coordinated action. According to him, restoring LPG supply is essential to protect businesses, workers, and essential services across the country.
