Hyderabad, March 12 (Maxim News): Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K Taraka Ramarao today said they have launched Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) to develop the drain systems and all the drains in the city. He said they had taken up 60 drain development works at a cost of ₹985.45 crore and added that all the works were at different stages of completion.
Replying to questions raised by the members in the Assembly, KTR said they had decided to take up the works in three different stages. He said they did not have any evidence about the drainage system in MCH and added that they had decided to take up underground drainage works on the outskirts of the MCH. He also said that they had prepared a Hyderabad Sewerage Master plan at a cost of ₹11,000 crore. He said the storm water drains and sewer lines were mixed with each other and most of the nalas have encroachments.
While noting that they will overcome all the problems under their SNDP program, KTR said they would spend ₹735 crore within the GHMC area and ₹250 crores outside the GHMC area. He said he was holding regular review meetings every week on the progress of the SNDP and added that they would take steps to complete the works before the upcoming monsoon season. He made it clear that the Centre has no stake in the works taken up by them.
He also ridiculed that the Union ministers posed for pictures in the city after the Hyderabad floods but not released funds to restore the damaged areas. He claimed that while the Centre gave ₹1000 crore to Gujarat after the floods, he said non-release of funds to Hyderabad was a matter of shame for the Central government. He also targeted the Congress party and alleged that 11 people died in Bholajour after consuming polluted water during the Congress rule. (Maxim News)
