100 Cr Fine on AP Govt. for Reservoir Construction Violations

The state government’s plea to lift the stay imposed by the Green Tribunal on the construction of three reservoirs, Avulapalli, Mudiveedu, and Netiguntapalli was met with disappointment as the Supreme Court declined to fully grant their request.

The Green Tribunal had previously stayed the construction and imposed a hefty penalty of Rs 100 crore for non-compliance with regulations.

The state government had challenged the stay and approached the Supreme Court, with Advocate Rohatgi arguing that the imposed penalty was challenging for the new state.

The Supreme Court has now partially stayed the fine, directing the government to pay Rs 25 crore to the Krishna Board. During the proceedings, the bench questioned the legality of favoring project divisions.
