Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police solved the theft case of the 15-year-old Casuarina Bonsai plant that was stolen from the house of former Director-General of Police V. Appa Rao and arrested one person here on Friday.
The police, who examined footage from the surveillance cameras in the neighbourhood, found two men coming on a bike and stealing the tree, which was kept in a pot near the gate.
“With the help of the footage, we traced one person and caught him. Efforts are on to nab the other, ” said an official.
Rao’s wife Sridevi had lodged a complaint last Monday, stating that the costly tree had gone missing. Their gardener, who remembered the bonsai in its place on Saturday, had noticed it missing while watering the plants on Monday.
The police said though the retired cop’s house had two CCTV cameras installed, both were defunct for quite some time now.
