Hyderabad: Throwing over 50,000 students of Intermediate courses into big trouble, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education has derecognized 235 junior colleges in Hyderabad and across the state for failing to comply with the rules.
The BIE is reported to have taken the decision to cancel the recognition of these colleges as the managements failed to get their approval renewed before the deadline which ends on Thursday.
The deadline for the renewal by submitting requisite documents and paying penalties was extended several times before but this time the BIE decided not to relax the norms any more and took a final decision to cancel affiliation of the colleges which failed to comply with its rules.
The BIE has penalized several junior colleges for violation of norms and big names in the field such as Sri Chaitanya and Narayana had paid penalties in crores for renewal of their recognition this year. However, most colleges took the BIE for granted as the government would always take a soft corner as thousands of students’ future is involved in the matter.
Last year, Vasavi Junior College of Chaitanyapuri in Hyderabad was derecognized just before the annual examinations and hundreds of students were left in the lurch. With the half-yearly exams just a few days away, thousands of Intermediate students studying at these erring colleges are worried a lot as to what is going to be their future.
According to official sources, the students of the derecognized junior colleges will be accommodated at the nearby colleges which have proper affiliation of the BIE. However, those colleges are already over-crowded and it may not be that easy to accommodate more students in the existing classrooms with the same infrastructure.
The list of colleges that are derecognized is to be released by the BIE on Friday after the end of deadline in the evening.
