3,100 Young Minds Compete In 21st Telangana Regional Prodigy Contest 2025

Hyderabad, June 29, 2025: A record-breaking 3,100 children, aged 6 to 12 years, participated in the 21st Telangana Regional SIP Prodigy Contest 2025, held on Sunday morning at Classic Convention-3 near Shamshabad.

Organized by SIP Abacus, India’s leading children’s skill development organization, the event celebrated mental agility and academic excellence.

SIP Prodigy is an annual abacus and mental arithmetic competition.

In a high-energy atmosphere filled with anticipation and enthusiasm, the children — dubbed “human calculators” — attempted to solve over 200 arithmetic problems in just 11 minutes, showcasing their abacus-powered mental math skills. The contest was conducted in two rounds, with 1,550 students competing in each session.

Inaugurating the contest, Mr. Sibi Sekhar, Director, SIP Academy, emphasized that “Abacus is beyond Mathematics. It builds essential life skills — concentration, listening, memory, and a competitive spirit — all of which lay the foundation for academic excellence and confidence.”

He added, “Any competition has two outcomes: one is the Winner, and the other is the Learner. Participation matters more than winning or losing — it builds resilience and the spirit to grow.”

The Regional Winners of this contest will go on to represent Telangana at the International Prodigy Championship, to be held in November 2025 in Chennai, where over 5,000 children from 23 Indian states and 11 countries are expected to compete.

convocation ceremony was also held for 300 students who completed the prestigious Grand Master Level, the most advanced stage of SIP Abacus training.

Addressing media prior to the event, Mr. Sekhar shared the organization’s ambitious expansion plans.  SIP Academy, currently present in 23 Indian states and 11 countries, plans to expand to Gujarat, parts of Uttar PradeshAustralia, and other global markets. It has trained over 1 million children in two decades. Currently, 1.75 lakh students are enrolled in 1000 centres across India, facilitated by 5,000+ teachers, with programs running in 1,500 schools.

Mr. Bharath, Telangana State Head, announced that SIP Academy has 71 centres in Telangana, training 10,300+ students, with plans to scale up to 100 centres within a year.

Ms. Uma Swaminathan highlighted SIP Academy’s green initiative — “Creating a Forest”, using the Miyawaki method, a Japanese technique to grow dense native forests. SIP has already created five such forests in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. Plans are underway to create the first Miyawaki forest in Telangana, in partnership with the State Forest Department.

SIP’s Prodigy Contests are known for scale and excellence, having earned six entries in the Limca Book of Records for record student participation.
