4-Day Sailing Champs Kicks-Off In City
Hyderabad, July 9 (Maxim News): The four day India’s largest State-level Sailing Championships—Telangana State Regatta, kicked off in the city at The Yacht Club of Hyderabad this morning.
Over sixty participants from 12 Telangana Districts are vying for the titles. The day one belonged to girls. At the end of the day on Tuesday, the top four places are secured by girls led by Preethi Kongara. With two wins and a second position, Preethi is way ahead of the fleet with 4 points distantly followed by sisters Dharani Laveti and Jhansi Laveti at 18 and 22 positions respectively.
Preethi of Hyderabad started all three races from the middle pop the line sacrificing position for clear wind and speed and shot thru from the middle of the fleet to win two races by a clear margin.
Lakshmi Nookarathnam finished with one win with a 3rd position. She was disqualified in the 3rd race because she started ahead of time and dropped from 2nd position to 17th. The top 4 positions are secured by sailors from Hyderabad. Ajay Gajji, a favourite from Vikarabad is placed 5th with 30 points in his kitty. With one win and two bad races, he still leads the boys followed by Santosh Chitakalaya at second position with 34 points
The tournament is organised by Telangana Sailing Association (TSA) in collaboration with the Yachting Association of India and the Yacht Club of Hyderabad plays a role of the host.(Maxim News)
