Khammam: Police seized 440 kilograms of ganja hidden in a tractor parked in Srinagar Colony in Khammam city on Friday.
Following tip-off received by the Task Force ACP G Venkat Rao and Sathupalli Inspector of Police Ramkanth, a police team conducted inspections at the colony. The team found ganja packets hidden in a secret chamber beneath a tractor trolley. The worth of the contraband would be around 44 lakh.
A person called Badavath Sanya of Maripeda Bungalow of Mahabubabad district was taken into custody, the ACP Venkat Rao informed.
The main accused Shankar Naik of Islavath Thanda in Mahabubabad district and the tractor owner Ravinder Naik, a resident of Srinagar Colony, were absconding and a man hunt was launched to nab them, said Venkat Rao and Khammam (Rural) ACP Venkat Reddy.
Shanker Naiku used to procure ganja from Odisha and smuggle it to Maharashtra. Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal and Additional DCP(Law and Order) D Muralidhar appreciated the police team for seizing the ganja.
