5 Dead, 40 Injured At Jain Nirvana Festival In Uttar Pradesh

A devastating incident occurred at the Jain Nirvana festival in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday when a makeshift stage collapsed, resulting in the death of five people and injuries to at least 40 others, including women and children. The accident took place during a laddoo ceremony in the town of Bagaur, located in Baghpat.

The Incident

Hundreds of devotees had gathered at the ceremony to offer laddu to Lord Adinath, accompanied by Jain monks. The stage, which was made from bamboo and wood, gave way under the weight of the crowd, causing it to collapse and trapping several people. The sudden accident shocked attendees and left many injured.

This event, which has been a long-standing tradition for nearly 30 years, quickly turned tragic. Police officials reported that the collapse caused chaos at the site, leading to numerous casualties.

Emergency Response

Authorities responded promptly to the disaster. Senior police officials, along with a large team of personnel, were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and assist the injured. Fortunately, 108 ambulances were already stationed at the site, allowing for immediate medical attention and transportation of the injured to nearby hospitals.

Baghpat District Magistrate, Asmita Lal, provided an update on the situation, confirming that at least 40 people were injured in the incident. She also stated that 20 individuals had been treated with first aid and discharged from the hospital.

Official Statements

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences for the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

He directed district officials to spare no effort in ensuring that the injured devotees received the best possible medical treatment.
