Hyderabad: Heavy Rain And Surprise Hailstorm Hits The City

Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed several parts of the state on Saturday. Hyderabadis, however, were in for a pleasant surprise as a powerful hailstorm hit northern areas of the city, especially KPHB, Nizampet, Prashanti Nagar, and Gajularamaram in the evening. In areas like JNTU and Manikonda, the hailstorm hit office-goers, pushing them to run for cover. Many took to social media to share pleasant scenes.

The hailstorm left farmers of Jagtial, Karimnagar, and other areas dismayed, as they were worried about crops. Farmers’ woes might not end soon as India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that the rainfall might continue on Sunday as well.

As of 7 pm on Saturday, Alangapuram in the Suryapet district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, 7.6cm. Various other locations in central and eastern Telangana also saw heavy rain with Bhongir and Gadwal receiving 5 cm each.

Hyderabad, after remaining hot and dry through the day, was also greeted with a sudden burst of heavy rain and wind in the evening for an hour with Quthubullapur receiving 4.45cm of rainfall.

On Friday too, thunderstorms rocked the state, yielding nearly 7cm of rainfall in parts of Sangareddy, the highest recorded in the state.

As per data from Telangana State Development and Planning Society (TSDPS), Raikode received 7.5 cm of rainfall. In the GHMC region, the highest rainfall was recorded at Rajendranagar, with 2cm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, due to the low depression formed over central India, rain has left no spot untouched in Telangana. As per IMD, the rainfall would continue on Sunday as well with a yellow alert issued. Rain and thunder might hit most districts on Sunday as well after which a dry spell is expected.
