Bharat Health Index 2023 Survey Reveals That 38 Percent Of The Salary Of An individual Is Spent On Hospital Bills
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (Maxim News): Medical expenses in the country are increasing day by day. It is noteworthy that an average person spends about 40 percent of his income on medical care. This was revealed in the Bharat Health Index 2023 survey.
Bharat Health Index 2023 has conducted a survey on the country’s population and their health. More than 10 thousand people expressed their opinion. According to this survey, 25 percent of the country’s population living in rural areas only go to the health centers in their surrounding areas for treatment. The remaining 10 percent in these rural areas go to health centers within a 10km radius for treatment. Another 15 percent of people consult RMP doctors near them. But according to the survey report, 25 percent of general doctors are available to people in rural areas. However, due to the non-availability of specialist cardiologists gynecologists, and pediatricians, rural people are not able to get better medical care.
According to the Bharat Health Index 2023, the average annual family income of the country’s population covers about 15 to 25 percent of medical expenses. Another 23 percent are taking loans for hospital expenses. 6 percent of people are selling assets to cover medical bills. But 53 percent of people are following some type of saving rules for medical expenses, says the Bharat health index.
According to the survey, 90 percent of the country’s population has traveled from one region to another for special treatment like cancer, neurological or blood disorders. However, the survey revealed that 5 percent of people are losing their family members due to the lack of better treatment centers and modern medical facilities for patients in their areas.
52 percent of the people of the country have a pharmacy facility within 5 km of their residence. 85 percent of people have to travel more than 10 km for some special tablets. 47 percent of people have a thermometer in their house. But only 7 percent have devices to check blood pressure and blood sugar.
The survey revealed that only 28 percent of the people of the country have health insurance. 88 percent of them have this insurance facility through the government or various schemes. 10 percent have private insurance facilities. But 55 percent of people have not heard about health insurance to date. 36 percent of people don’t know about insurance benefits. Another 24 percent of people don’t even know how to get real health insurance. Due to high premium charges, 28 percent of people did not take it. On the other hand, 15 percent of people are away from medical insurance due to some complicated paper problems. 18 percent of people do not want to take this insurance because there is no insurance facility for some types of diseases. Another 7 percent of people could not take it because of language or illiteracy. (Maxim News)
