Heavy rains Call For Vigilance At Ponds: GHMC Commissioner

Hyderabad, September 05: GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose has directed officials to be vigilant at ponds due to heavy rains in the city. On the occasion of Patel Pond being cut off in Miyapur Circle, the commissioner inspected it along with Srilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi on Tuesday.

On this occasion, the commissioner said… in the wake of heavy rains, he directed the officials to observe the flood situation of the ponds under the jurisdiction of GHMC and to be vigilant and take measures to avoid damage to the low-lying areas. The commissioner said that 191 works have been undertaken for dam embankment restoration and sluice repairs under the jurisdiction of GHMC. As the sluices of Patel Pond broke and floods occurred in many colonies, Lakes SC was ordered to temporarily repair the broken embankment and arrange to send the flood in the pond through the mud. As per the Commissioner’s orders, the officials immediately took up the repairs diverted the flood and took measures to prevent the flood in the colonies.

Serilingapally Pally MLA, Government Whip said… After 18 cm of rain fell in a single day, the Patel pond was cut off. He said that temporary repairs have been undertaken to the pond and nowhere except the Lingampally railway under bridge in the constituency has been flooded.
