Hyderabad: App-based cab drivers, auto drivers, goods transport drivers, and delivery partners across Telangana will observe a statewide flash strike on Wednesday, disrupting ride-hailing, food delivery, grocery delivery, and logistics services during peak hours. The protest has been called by the Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum (TADF) over long-pending demands related to wages, welfare, and regulation of aggregator platforms.
The workers are demanding a minimum base fare along with revised per-kilometre and per-minute charges for app-based transport services. They have also sought the immediate notification of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Rules, the formation of a Welfare Board, and the implementation of minimum fares under the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines (MVAG), 2025. According to the workers, aggregator companies should not be allowed to fix fares unilaterally.
Gig Workers Demand Better Pay and Welfare Measures
The one-day “Breakdown Flash Strike” is expected to affect services offered through Ola, Uber, Rapido, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, and Porter. As a result, commuters and customers may experience longer waiting times, reduced vehicle availability, and delays in food, grocery, and parcel deliveries during peak booking hours.
Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) President Shaik Salauddin said more than two lakh gig and platform workers are expected to participate in the protest across the state. He added that drivers and delivery partners will remain offline during high-demand periods to highlight their concerns.
Furthermore, the workers warned that if the Telangana government and aggregator companies fail to address their demands, they will launch an indefinite statewide strike after August 8.
Meanwhile, commuters travelling to airports, railway stations, and other important destinations have been advised to make alternate travel arrangements to avoid inconvenience. Customers using app-based transport and delivery services may also face service disruptions throughout the protest period.
The protesting workers said they are seeking fair compensation, transparent pricing, and stronger social security measures to improve the working conditions of gig and platform workers across Telangana.
