Rahul Gandhi Lists Five Demands After Dharna and Detention

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday placed five key demands before the Central government after he and several Opposition leaders were detained by Delhi Police during a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence over the NEET paper leak issue.

The dramatic day saw Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several Congress leaders staging a sit-in near Lok Kalyan Marg. Police later detained the protesters and shifted Rahul Gandhi to Chhatrasal Stadium, while Priyanka Gandhi was taken to Mandir Marg Police Station. Both leaders were released later in the evening. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited Priyanka Gandhi at the police station.

Rahul Gandhi’s Five Demands

While in detention, Rahul Gandhi released a video outlining the Congress party’s demands. They include:

• Resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

• Action against police personnel involved in the alleged assault on protesting students and withdrawal of cases filed against them.

• A public apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Monday’s police action.

• A discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament.

• Immediate education and examination reforms to prevent future paper leaks.

Questioning the country’s education system, Rahul Gandhi said students and parents deserve answers on repeated paper leaks, rising education costs, and the financial burden on families. He added that the Opposition wants a full debate on the issue in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi thanked students and supporters for standing together in the movement and said the protest was aimed at protecting the future of India’s youth.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh, who met Rahul Gandhi at the protest site, said the government was ready to discuss the NEET issue in Parliament. However, he accused the Congress leader of changing his earlier stand by insisting on the resignation of the Education Minister.

Similarly, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan accused the Congress of politicising the issue. He said the government had already expressed its willingness to hold a comprehensive discussion in Parliament. However, he alleged that the Congress preferred political confrontation instead of democratic debate.

The confrontation has further intensified the political battle over the NEET paper leak controversy, with both the government and the Opposition preparing for another round of debate in Parliament.
